The Fallen Idol

One of my favorite films. Philip is a lonely little rich boy ( his parents are always gone, his father having a diplomatic post) and Baines is his butler/caregiver. Baines was once an important man in Africa but now he is a servant henpecked by his cold  wife. He speaks fondly and indulgently of the Blacks (almost as children)  as he indulges Philip with cakes and ginger pop. Philip is introduced to Baines' "neice" and instructed to keep quiet, and it leads to a shocking conclusion that puts a child in a terrible position of guarding adult secrets.

The Master and the composer.

Torn Curtain, Bernard Hermann, and how hard it is to kill someone

The scene with Gromek is the most intense on film. Most movies show someone getting shot or stabbed, falling   down and never getting up.  Hermann's  haunting score adds to it. I am reckoning Hitch got up one morning and thought " I am going to show how hard it is to kill someone."

Hello fellow movie lovers! I am just a nursing assistant in a small town who is no expert or critic, but I do love films and look forward to sharing them with you!
